undertheigloo - circlesend (freedomroad records)

So after all the fun and joys of the summer, winter is here and we need something to snuggle up to. While summer is the time for the exciting pop hits, winter is the time for those records that you can listen to again and again. undertheigloo are releasing their debut album just at the right time. Full of dreamy and shoegazy songs it is just the thing to listen to as the winds howl outside.

Songs like Silence in Space and Springtime are filled with soaring guitars that contrast with the gentle melody of the songs. Each song is carefully built up layer by layer, to a stirring mix of emotions. While some certain bands have given stirring piano pop music a bad name, undertheigloo's orchestration and play with style means the music keeps on moving and progressing and never becomes stagnant.

For example, in Donnie, they play around with using a much more bass driven sound, almost creating a kind of grooviness, and then in the next track Race to get to Sleep, they slow down to such a pace that if they added bells on it, it would be the perfect Christmas song. But the standout track of the album is the title track. With a keyboard backing running up and down throughout the song it sums up how gentle music doesn't have to be bland, but still listenable.
