Razorlight - Stumble and Fall
You can always spot which bands have the biggest marketing budget. These bands appear out of nowhere, and end up with lots of airplay for no reason at all. Their first few singles will fail to make the top 10, and then by the summer (usually just after their debut album has been released) they will be dropped. Let's hope Razorlight are one of these. There's nothing wrong with the music as such, it's just that another band are doing pretty much what they are doing (the Libertines). Maybe the record company just feels they need a safer version with fewer drugs.

The Rapture - Love is All
*looks down at pr sheet* "The Rapture... leftfield punk rock and a little New York savy. Well they have shown in the past that they can be pretty good fun (see 'House of Jealous Lovers), but Love is All is just a bit too bland. Where's the leftfield punk rock? It just sounds like a 60s mop-top band, it can almost be sung by a 4 piece with identical bowl shaped haircuts and suits. A redeeming feature is the other track on this CD, that has the type of Rapture you expect, sounding more like they're from New York. The Rapture has a slight advantage over all these identikit bands of recent years, that they have an original slant, tracing back to the New York dance route. They should make the most of this, and not sound like all those other bands around.
