Theremin, the long awaited collaboration between Richard Walters and
the drum and bass section of Wonderland, was very interesting. Polysoul and the
later Wonderland material have been very similar, the focus on soaring vocals
and melodies. So it was expected that Theremin would ba a natural progression
grom there. It was a surprise to hear the opening song which was more Placebo
than Polysoul. There was angst in Richard's voice that was never heard before.
However there were also the melodies that were to be expected. It was an
promising beginning for, hopefully, a group that will be very exciting.
Astrid come from the same background of having the melody as the most
important part of the song. They looked like eager puppies, just waiting there
to please. They have managed, very successfully, to form the 3 minute pop songs
that are not at all difficult to take in. The band deserve so much more than
just a half filled room at the Point. Unfortunately in the current state of
affairs it will be difficult for them to achieve any sort of success, unless
they dumb down to the Smash Hits audience.
