At face value OKGo are just another one of those American guitar pop bands (see also Good Charlotte etc). The single Get Over It would back up this suggestion, leading to a false start about their sound. There is that ska influence that seems to be obvious in loads of other American teen bands, but with some other influences we can forgive them for both of these sings.
In their cheery, harmony lead songs they are what Silver Sun could have sounded like, if they grew up in America. Especially in What to Do, with their heavily overlaid harmony and guitar lines. They know the key to writing good pop songs.
The pace is set by the first four tracks, that are all heady-pop songs. So it is a slight dissapointment to enter into a lull. Pop bands should never write ballads, they never work, and it always seem like they are trying too hard.
They work well if you approach the band as a pop group. You can only be disappointed if you try to look further than that. Afterall pop isn't meant to be very deep, but as long as you're having fun, it doesn't really matter does it?
