Michael Franti & Spearhead - Rock the Nation

It's almost as if we never left from the 80s. The bass line is just like all those standard bass riffs from rap/soul tracks of that decade, and the rap doesn't really seem to go anywhere either. It's not as if the track is awful, but it's just that this has been done so many times before, and you would have thought, more than 10 years on there would be something new to add to this tired formula.

45s - Something Real

It's a bad sign when the plonkety plonk piano kicks in, referring back to the Britpop era (or even worse Cockney knees up). So basically here are some cheeky chappys, trying to do what Supergrass did about 5 years ago. There isn't anything wrong with trying to do what Supergrass did, but since then bands have moved on, and if anyone wants Supergrass sounding songs, they can already get the Supergrass album. It might make more interesting music to mix Supergrass with say, Bob the Builder (you never know - it could work!).

Well the second track seems to draw some influence from Stevie Wonder, and it's a bit more interesting than the first track, so you never know... mix and match your influences or just try to confuse your listener.
